Hospice of York is a non-profit, ALL VOLUNTEER organization that provides free, confidential, supportive, non-medical services to individuals with any terminal
illness. The staff and trained volunteers provide emotional and practical support to patients, families and friends. Hospice believes that death is a natural process and that each individual has a right to a death with dignity and respect, consistent with his/her beliefs and values. It is
essential to the Hospice mission to provide bereavement support and to educate its community about the philosophy of Hospice and its services. |
It is our intent to help those who are dying to live with dignity in the time left to them. We offer friendship both to you, the patient, and to your family at a time when there may be tremendous need. Hospice is dedicated to easing your stress, fear and anxiety. We respect your privacy and treat all cases confidentially. At any time you may choose to suspend or terminate Hospice service. You, the patient, have choices and you make the decisions about your care. |
- Listen compassionately and provide emotional support.
- Encourage communication and expression of feelings among family members.
- Assist patients in their efforts to remain at home.
- Make referrals to community agencies.
- Continue to support family during bereavement period.
- Provide Hospice volunteer services for Beacon Hospice; York
Hospital; Hospice of Southern Maine.
Our volunteers live within the communities we serve. They receive ongoing Hospice training and guidance.
